There isn’t just one way Christian employers care for their employees. Christians, made in the image of a Grand Designer, are creative themselves. But we stumbled upon a special kind of creativity in the stories here. In each is an employer who seeks to find ways to encourage employees … toward faith, toward discovery of the joy of generosity, and toward finding and fulfilling their own God-given dreams. Our team at NCF recognizes this kind of generosity, because it’s been demonstrated to us by our own leadership.

Building generosity into business

By Jill Foley Turner

Jonathan Reynolds changed the location of his company’s annual gathering to Ensenada, Mexico and flew his whole team in because he wanted to show them something about generosity. In the end, they had shown him a thing or two.

Giving is contagious, and once his staff had experienced it for themselves, there was “massive heart change,” and now they’re asking to go back for more.

Read the story of this innovative company that puts people above profits and seeks to be a part of giving to God’s work around the world.

BOOK

"What is your big dream?"

Do you know the answer to the question ... for yourself? Those closest to you? The people who work for you? This book is a business parable, a story about a fictional company. But what we found most interesting about it is that some people we know (who you can read about in this edition of Saturday 7) seem to have come up with this idea themselves. These are real business owners proving that caring about your employees enough to know their dreams can have a dramatic effect on your relationship with them, on their lives, and on your business. If personnel issues are a drain on your business, you might want to read this.

Parting Shot

Even before COVID-19 hit the U.S., the largest industry in the nation was on the lowest rung of the ladder. According to Big Table in Seattle, one in six restaurant workers are below the poverty line, which is double any other working group. “For folks in this industry, because you’re living so close to the edge anyway, the day that you don’t get to work means you’re instantly in crisis,” says Big Table executive director Kevin Finch. But organizations like his and The Giving Kitchen Atlanta, are working to help. You may find an organization in your area doing the same.

So that's our parting shot for this week. What will yours be? Do you have friends, family, or colleagues who would enjoy an email like this? Forward it to them today.
