Packing good news in a shoebox

All year long, our team at the National Christian Foundation (NCF) has been putting our generosity into action through our "Generosity Works" initiative, including building houses with Habitat for Humanity and serving at There's Hope for the Hungry, a local food pantry helping less-fortunate families.

Now, as the weather grows colder and our thoughts turn to Christmas, we've been in the holiday spirit through our annual Operation Christmas Child service project. At our headquarters in Atlanta, staff members enjoyed holiday treats while they worked to pack small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies for boys and girls ages 10-14.

We chose to focus on this older age group because according to Operation Christmas Child, they receive the least amount of shoeboxes. NCF team members from our national office and local offices around the country assembled 307 shoeboxes that are ready to be shipped to needy children around the world.

“Bringing good news and great joy to a child in need is why this project is near and dear to our hearts," says Anne Metz, an NCF employee who helped organize the event. "And it aligns well with the mission, vision, and values of the National Christian Foundation and allows our staff to practice generous giving.”

As a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child is the world's largest Christmas project with over 100 million shoebox gifts delivered to children in more than 130 countries since 1993.

If you’d like to help a needy child this Christmas, there’s still time to pack your own shoebox before National Collection Week begins November 13-20, 2017. Operation Christmas Child is a wonderful service project to do with your children, grandchildren, company, or small group. To participate, visit their website to find your nearest collection site.
