David Byers is the Managing Director of Capital Strategies Group, Inc., a life insurance firm specializing in advanced markets. David graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (BS), Cumberland School of Law (JD) and New York University (LLM in Taxation). He practiced tax and business law for 12 years until joining Capital Strategies. Since then, David has led the firm’s estate planning and non-qualified compensation practices, focusing on affluent clients and their companies located throughout the Southeast.
David is currently the President and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Association of Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU) in Washington, DC. He also serves on the Board of Directors of M Financial Group, the premier insurance distribution channel for advanced markets.
David served on the Alabama State Board of Education, the governing body for Alabama’s community college system and the policy-making body for Alabama’s K – 12 education system, for 16 years alongside three different governors. He is a member of Leadership Alabama, and has served as the Chairman of the Board of The King’s Ranch/Hannah Homes (now King’s Home) and Briarwood Christian School, as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of Covenant College.
David is a member of Third Presbyterian Church where he serves as a member of its session and as an adult Sunday school teacher. He and his wife, Karen, live in Birmingham. They have three sons – Hart (Michelle), John and Charlie, and enjoy two granddaughters who live in Birmingham as well, Abigail and Madeline.
