COVID-19 and church planning: 3 considerations

By Generis

An article we ran at the start of the pandemic, sharing what churches could do to survive through this season, has been our most-read story this year. So we asked church consultants, Generis, to help us expand on this important conversation with additional ideas that we hope will help your churches and ministries. Here are some highlights:

In the early stages of the pandemic, we saw congregations scrambling to take control of a situation most never saw coming. How could they quickly marshal resources to sustain ministry via electronic means? The second stage focused on regathering: How would they bring congregations back in face-to-face settings without risking their health?

Some are still scrambling. Others have begun planning for the future. But even if plans seem clear now, this pandemic is not predictable, and this is a long game for churches. It’s important to face forward with optional, flexible plans. We’ll share with you how.

"The Bible says we’re to seek to walk in unity with people. Part of living out who we are is coming directly to them, so we did. But I didn’t know what to expect."

In a reconciliation story only God could have written, C12 member and CEO of Packaging Technologies Group, Bill Blezard, sought to reconcile with a supplier who had shared his company’s highly confidential information. What happened next was extraordinary ... watch now.

Special thanks to our friends at C12 for sharing this video. If you're a Christian business leader in need of a group of like-minded peers, don't lead alone. Visit their website to learn more.

In 2010, when she was just 27 years old, Lynsi Snyder became CEO of In-N-Out Burger, a beloved American hamburger chain that has barely changed its menu since 1948. “Visionary,” and “servant leader” aren’t usually words used in the same sentence, to describe the same person. But this is what is said about Lynsi. Her love for the business her grandfather founded is contagious, and her vulnerability (even when it’s communicated to nearly 30,000 employees through video) makes her a better leader of people who serve.

STAT

There are more than 70 million Millennials in the U.S. right now, the largest generation living. They’re altering how we view work, how people shop, how people communicate. They’ve changed giving expectations, too.

While they’re happy to contribute to your cause, they ask a few things in return. They want online donation platforms, access to real-time updates on project/program results, and the ability to share their results online.

Parting Shot

As beings made in the image of the Creator, charged with the care of his creation, we marvel at what God has made. That’s why we thought this new research on whales during their travels through quiet waters would be interesting to you. Listen to a recording of whale songs, and learn more about why whales are flourishing during the pandemic. If you have a Giving Fund, you can log in to view the charities that are focused on environmental and animal causes.

So that's our parting shot for this week. What will yours be? Do you have friends, family, or colleagues who would enjoy an email like this? Forward it to them today.
