Janice Munemitsu: Sharing the freedom of a generous life

By Bryan Feller

Janice Munemitsu was raised in a generous family of farmers. When she was young, her parents handed out baskets of strawberries, because that is what they had in abundance. Now an adult, she knows that staying close to Jesus is where the good fruit is found for life.

There’s an interesting thing we often hear among those who are generous over long periods of time. Sometimes, they hear God challenging them. It’s often very specific direction about what to do. “Make sure you have this much in your wallet,” or “give this [specific] amount.”

Janice experienced something like this too, when she heard God tell her to increase a pledge she was about to make. “Well, I heard God pretty clearly,” she said in faith. That led her on a journey of generosity with Jesus that just continues to increase her trust in him.

QUOTE

At 89 years old, this former billionaire has given away about 375,000 percent more than he kept for himself. Frugal all his life so he could give more, this man who never flies first class and lives in a simple apartment has given it all away. And he's inspired an entire generation of philanthropists.

BOOK

Cameron Doolittle has the unique perspective of a man who works with and interviews generous people on every continent on the planet. Through his experiences, he has discovered how differently each generous person gives and the similarities among the needs of givers.

Through this book, Cameron will help you know that you are not alone – that there are others going through the same things you are as they determine how much to give, where, and even when. He’ll teach you how to pray through specific Scripture to find God’s heart and yours for your giving. And he’ll remind you how clearly God answers when people who want to give ask. It’s likely no other book will encourage you more toward the practices that make giving joyful.

Parting Shot

Five of the 10 worst fires California has ever experienced have happened this year. Oregon and parts of Washington, too, are burning. We urge you to pray for the West Coast of our country, for the people, for the first responders, search and rescue workers, and those who are supporting them.

So that's our parting shot for this week. What will yours be? Do you have friends, family, or colleagues who would enjoy an email like this? Forward it to them today.
