COVID-19: The Best of Times
Friends,
My wife Sally’s dad was a Charles Dickens fan. On occasion he would quote the opening lines of A Tale of Two Cities which might easily be applied to the tumultuous days we are in.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way.”
It always helps me to remember that, as Solomon said, there is nothing new under the sun. And so it is today.
We have choices we can make. Let’s choose the best. Let’s choose wisdom. Let’s help create an epoch of belief. Let’s proclaim the Light of the world. Let’s encourage hope to spring up. We have everything before us…and we all know that victory is ours…we are going to Heaven.
At the NCF we encourage our donor partners to have not only a Financial Strategy, but a Giving Strategy as well. Indeed, we think our lives should be Giving Strategies which include Financial Strategies.
When fear sweeps culture prompting many to shrink back to protect financial strategies, let’s take prudent steps to protect our finances, but let’s also think about ways we can give. Let’s think of our lives as Giving Strategies and experience the joy of living that out.
Each of you is a generous person. Whether you would define it this way or not, you are each developing your own, God-given Giving Strategy. We at the NCF exist to call that out and serve its development in you for your own joy and fulfillment…and to the glory of God.
Let’s choose to make this the Best of Times…for the Lord’s purposes in the Twin Cities.
