2020 Year-end Deadlines & Giving Resources

There are unique opportunities for strategic, year-end giving to help support the charities you care about most. There are a number of tax strategies that can help you maximize your impact for the charities you support, at a time when they need it most. Email Linda for a confidential conversation.

2020 Deadlines

Monetary contributions into your Fund:

  • December 18 — Publicly traded stock and mutual fund deadline for transfers initiated with your financial advisor. Shares must be delivered to NCF’s brokerage account before December 31. Due to high year-end volume, it can take several weeks for firms to transfer stock.
  • December 21 — Initiate an online gift (E-check) to avoid a possible transaction that does not complete on time (banks may take up to 10 days to approve or deny a transfer). After 12/21, consider mailing a physical check with a postmark or sending a wire transfer.
  • December 31 — To qualify as a 2020 gift, all contributions into your Fund must be received by DECEMBER 31. Our office will be open on Thursday, December 31 until 4 p.m. to receive hand delivered checks.
  • Also by December 31 —
    • Physical checks that are mailed must be postmarked by USPS (not simply deposited into a mailbox).
    • NOTE: A private postage meter (electronic) stamp does not qualify as a postmark. Checks with a postmeter stamp still must be postmarked by USPS by 12/31/2020.
    • Wire transfers must be received in NCF’s bank account.
    • Transfers to separately invested accounts (initiated by your financial advisor) must be completed.

Grants to charities from your NCF Giving Fund:

  • December 12 — December is a VERY busy month for granting. Please submit a grant request by this date if you would like your grant mailed to a charity by the end of the year.
  • Reminder: you receive a tax-deduction when gifts are deposited into your Giving Fund. You do NOT need to issue grants to charities by year-end to receive a 2020 tax deduction.
