NCF Michigan

A local community of faithful Christian givers

Our team has the privilege of walking alongside givers, helping them discern God's story for their generosity as they navigate the complicated landscape of giving. For 40+ years, givers at NCF have mobilized more than $25 billion for 90,000+ charities in their local communities and around the world.

Uncovering the joy of generosity

NCF Michigan was delighted to host several Generosity Conversation events across Michigan this summer in partnership with Generous Giving. Guests enjoyed several videos and table discussion and had the opportunity to share their observations with the group.

One guest shared, “My key takeaway is that the amount you give does not matter—the obedience does.” Another guest said, “God’s desire for us is to get into His creation, obey His voice, and give generously, knowing it all has come from His hand—talent, resources, ALL of it.”

The first video story shown (watch it here) featured Renee Lockey, an OB/GYN doctor who heard God telling her to live on a quarter of her salary and give the rest away. Renee describes how her experience of “working like a doctor, living like a nurse” has led her to a place of greater freedom, even while it required her to go back to living on a budget. Obedience to God’s call has resulted in a joyful, fulfilling life.

The second video story (watch it here) focused on Milton Buehner, a businessman in the pacific northwest. After facing the loss of three businesses and falling into a personal low, Milton decided to go all-in on God’s promises. “I prayed that God would help me love Him more,” said Milton, “and God answered that prayer.” When his business started to generate a significant profit, Milton sought God’s will for where to spend and give his financial resources with the understanding that, in the end, he wouldn’t be able to take any of it with him. The themes of providing a fair, but not necessarily equal, inheritance for one’s children resonated with many guests.

A Generosity Conversation serves as a preview of a Journey of Generosity, a small group experience that usually lasts 1 or 2 days in-person or online. The program revolves around video stories and teachings that help unpack the “how” and “why” of biblical generosity.

Generous Giving exists to spread the message of biblical generosity to grow generous givers, especially among those entrusted with much. Founded in 2000 by The Maclellan Foundation, it was launched with a vision to stir a renewed, spirit-led commitment to generosity among followers of Christ through conversation.

We’re looking forward to continuing this conversation about biblical generosity across Michigan. If you have questions or are interested in learning more, contact michigan@ncfgiving.com.
