Finishing well: Creating a succession plan for your giving

If you believe in the biblical principles of stewardship and generosity throughout your lifetime, then you likely also care about the idea of finishing well. As you’ve considered the end of your faithful race, have you also made a plan for what will happen to your Giving Fund?

Our team walks with givers through every season of the giving journey, so we’ve thought through and developed a solution for this step, too. You can leave a legacy of generosity for your family and for the causes God has put on your heart by creating a succession plan for your Giving Fund.

A succession plan provides final direction for NCF’s team about how you’d like us to distribute any remaining balance in your fund after your lifetime. It lets you continue your generosity for years to come and complete the task of faithfully stewarding the resources God has entrusted to you.

So, what directions can you include in your plan? You can choose or combine any of the following three options.

  1. You can name one or more successors – your kids, grandkids, or others – to continue your legacy of giving with a fund of their own at NCF.
  2. You can recommend recurring annual grants or one final grant to your church, your favorite ministries, and other charities. This is an opportunity to have more impact on the causes you care about most.
  3. You can support the ministry of NCF. This helps us continue our work of mobilizing resources and inspiring biblical generosity in your local community, across the nation, and around the world.

One of the great benefits of NCF’s process for developing succession plans is its simplicity. It doesn’t require an attorney or any paperwork. And while you’re welcome to bring your advisor into the process, that isn’t a requirement. There is no cost to create a succession plan and no minimum balance to create one.

You can make your selections online within a matter of minutes. Log in to your Giving Fund on your computer, click on Legacy in the top menu bar, then Start my plan, and follow the prompts. When you’ve made your selections, you can review and update them at any time by following the same directions.

If you do not document a succession plan for us by the time of your passing, we’ll still take care of your Giving Fund. We’ll seek to grant 75 percent of the remaining balance to causes you supported during your lifetime and 25 percent of the balance to support the ministry of NCF.

With a process this straightforward and an asset of valuable purpose like a Giving Fund, we hope you’ll take this important step toward finishing well.
