New CGA Rates Mean Greater Benefits for Givers of All Ages

How would you like to boost your retirement income and support the charities that you love? NCF can help you do just that with a charitable gift annuity (CGA). And as of July 1st, the increase in CGA payout rates makes this type of gift arrangement an even smarter option than ever before.

Here’s how it works:

  1. A charitable gift annuity allows you to make a gift to charity, and then receive stable payments for as long as you live.
  2. The CGA contract states the payment amount and terms. The rate is based on your age and when you would like to receive payments, as well as whether you choose to set it up as a couple, or just for yourself.
  3. The new gift annuity rates are an estimated 30 to 50 basis points higher than previous rates, making this an effective solution for givers age 40 to 100. If you are younger and want to defer payments, which is especially attractive to those that are younger, you have a double benefit with an additional higher deferred payout rate.
  4. Funding your gift annuity with appreciated assets, such as securities, can give you even more benefits. You will receive a federal income tax charitable deduction (when you itemize) in the year the gift is made, and eliminate part of the capital gains tax you would have paid if your sold your assets.
