Bill Akmentins

Broward Community Board Member

Bill Akmentins is the Senior Investment Portfolio Manager with The Northern Trust Company in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (Broward County). He is also team leader for the investment group in the office, where he oversees six other investment professionals managing over $4 billion in client assets. Besides leading the group, he is directly responsible for developing and executing investment strategy for over 80 personal and institutional clients. He has over 25 years’ experience working with high net worth families and endowments/foundations.

Before joining The Northern Trust Company, Bill was a Chief Investment Officer for a single family office in Miami and the Director of Public Investments for the then $1.2B Southern Methodist University endowment in Dallas, TX. He began his investment career as a research analyst for The Duke Endowment and entered the personal wealth management field as a Senior Portfolio Manager for U.S. Trust Co. in Charlotte, NC.

Bill received his Bachelor of Science degree from MIT (Cambridge, MA) and earned his MBA from The Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina — Chapel Hill. He also studied at the University of London while interning in the British Parliament.

He is a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) charter-holder and has served as a consultant for the CFA Institute, editing manuscripts and writing review questions for several CFA® exam curriculum books. He has also reviewed and edited CFA® exam questions and graded level III questions.
