Not long ago, when the pandemic shut down food assistance programs worldwide, a little girl in the Dominican Republic watched as church workers she met earlier in the day approached her home with bags of food. She began yelling to her mother, “Mommy! I told you the church wouldn’t forget! I told you the church would come and help, and they’re here!”
Jimmy Mellado, CEO of Compassion International, remembers this moment well – a beautiful picture of how real lives are changed when local churches and nonprofits come together to serve a community. This is how millions were sustained during the pandemic, and the collaborative effort that defined these partnerships is still proving highly effective today. Add in the power of data that provides the ability to measure life outcomes, and the equation grows even more powerful.
Jimmy joined NCF’s Kendra VanderMeulen to share more about how organizations are shifting their efforts to more effectively come together with the body of Christ in service to the poor around the world, empowering local churches to provide the crucial “last mile” of care for those facing poverty, displacement, shortages, and more.
