CEO to CEO: Advocating justice for the poor

In 1994, Gary Haugen was sent to Rwanda to direct the UN’s genocide investigation just weeks after it ended. After visiting mass graves and massacre sites, sifting through physical evidence, and collecting survivor testimonies, he was profoundly struck by how completely violence had obliterated decades of Christian ministry and poverty-alleviation work.  

This visit taught Gary something critical: You can’t effectively address poverty without also addressing violence against the poor. Thirty years later, he’s the founder and CEO of International Justice Mission, where this principle is the heartbeat of their work to combat slavery and violence against people living in poverty.
