The Great Commission goes digital: 3 apps empowering evangelism

For many who grew up before the digital age, participating in Jesus’ command to “go and make disciples of all nations” meant sending missionaries abroad (or becoming one) to share the Good News. While all believers knew they were to share the reason for their hope, those who couldn’t go were mainly limited to offering support, both prayer and financial, to those who were on the ground.

But with the advent of the Internet, now everyone can be an active participant in the spread of the gospel, regardless of location or ability to speak a second language. And God has brought the nations to us, providing opportunities like never before to share with those who before were outside our sphere of influence. Here are three apps that allow anyone to participate in the spread of the life-changing message of salvation. These tools offer ways to share Scripture, start conversations, and pray for those who have yet to hear.

Bible.is

Listen to God’s Word in high-quality, dramatized audio with Bible.is from Faith Comes by Hearing. Bible.is provides downloadable Scripture in 2,200+ languages (with more to be added) for offline listening and study. You can also watch excellent, word-for-word gospel films about the life and ministry of Jesus in 1,500+ languages. The app also facilitates finding and creating Scripture playlists to share with friends, family, and neighbors – even publicly on social media – so God’s Word can be studied together by groups.

GodTools

GodTools from Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) provides practical tools to help you share your faith and disciple others. It includes interactive gospel presentations like “Knowing God Personally,” conversation starters, a gospel invitation, and resources for Christian growth. The app also offers practical lessons and articles on how to start spiritual conversations and grow in your ability to share the gospel. With side-by-side translations in over 100 languages, it’s ideal for sharing your faith across cultures. It works offline, so it can be used anytime, anywhere.

Joshua Project

Joshua Project has created the Unreached of the Day app, which allows users the option to choose to join with thousands praying daily for unreached people. Choose to pray for a frontier people group, which is an unreached people with no Jesus followers still needing pioneer cross-cultural workers to bring the gospel. Or pray for the 300 largest of this type of people group over the course of 365 days. Or pray for an unreached group in Eurasia each day for a year.
