Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm with winds of 185 miles per hour, made landfall near New Hope, Jamaica, on Tuesday, October 28, leaving widespread destruction: more than 500,000 residents without power and western parts of the country under water. From there, it also ravaged Cuba and Haiti, severely damaging key infrastructure and leaving many homeless due to extensive flooding and mudslides.
NCF’s Florida teams are working to assess the damage and get support to those suffering in the aftermath of this multi-nation catastrophe. They’ll work with churches and charities providing immediate on-the-ground relief. If you feel called to extend the compassion of Christ in tangible ways to those whose lives have been upended by the strongest hurricane to hit the Caribbean in 174 years, here’s how you can help:
- If you have a fund at NCF: Log in, go to the Transfer page, and send a fund-to-fund transfer to “The Disaster Relief and Crisis Fund” # 294210.
- If you don’t have a fund at NCF: You can give via credit card or bank account transfer on this donation page.
Money donated to the fund will begin to be distributed as quickly as possible to verified churches and charities providing on-the-ground relief to those in need.
